The Eighth Annual Copper City Classic Vintage base ball Tournament will be held April 8-9 2017 at Warren Ballpark. The Arizona Territories Vintage Base Ball League and the Friends of Warren Ballpark Tournament will again host the tournament. The tournament will be dedicated to two World War II veterans who played on the 1941 Bisbee Bees Minor League team before heading off to war: Clarence Maddern, Bisbee's first native born male player to make the Big Show and Bert Shepard, who, in 1945, served as a shining example to all badly wounded warriors that life was still worth living when they came home from battle. Thanks for a Successful Vintage Base Ball Tournament

The home team, the Bisbee Black Sox, won all three of their games and the Friends of Warren Ballpark hosted our most successful Copper City Classic Vintage Base Ball tournament yet. Many people helped make the tournament a success.Thanks to the Arizona Territories Vintage Base Ball League teams that travel from Phoenix and Tucson to play with the local Bisbee Black Sox. The Colorado All-Stars brought their colorful uniforms and showmanship to entertain the cranks (fans in 1860 parlance).Thanks to Cory Giacoletti and John Stewart, the school district staff who devoted their weekend to working at the tournament. The Friends of Warren Ballpark are starting to plan the 7th Vintage Base Ball tournament. Dates: Saturday and Sunday April 16 and 17, 2016 at the Historic Warren Ballpark in Bisbee, Arizona. Gates will open at 9:00 a.m. on both days. Games will be played all day. Watch teams play by 1860 rules in old-time uniforms. Cheer for the local team, the Bisbee Black Sox.Added attraction Post Game Blues: James “Mudcat” Grant, 21-game major baseball winning pitcher and noted Blues singer, will return to the tournament in 2016, Bisbee loved Mudcat and Mudcat loved Bisbee. Restroom Construction Projected for October 2015

The restroom fund is flush. Approval of the U. S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Program Grant for $45,900 was received in May. The School Governing Board accepted the Friends matching funds donation of $56,100 in June. Architect Al Hopper is currently drawing up construction plans along with contractors who are completing electrical and plumbing plans. Restroom construction is projected for October 2015.We extend our gratitude to the Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold Company Foundation, Bisbee Area Social Investment Fund who awarded this project $30,000.
